Riverside is hosting an Energy Awareness day at Longtown Memorial Hall on Thursday 15th March between midday and 6pm. The event is open to all Longtown residents and will be focused on helping the community save money spent on heating their homes. There will be short presentations from Riverside, Building Research Establishment and Eon on community projects in other areas of the country that have been a success, followed by an opportunity to mix and ask question of all the speakers. The discussions will include how homes can be made as energy efficient as possible, how we can all make small lifestyle changes to save money and what community wide projects could be possible such as alternative energy community heating schemes. Guidance will also be available on what existing grants are available for improving energy efficiency and what will be available from October as part of the Governments flagship energy policy called the Green Deal. We are at the beginning of a revolution in the way energy is generated and conserved. The awareness day is the first step in empowering the community to take control and protect residents from the ongoing rise in energy cost. A draw will also be held to select 20 residents who will be entitled to a free detailed home survey by the Building Research Establishment to highlight the opportunities for saving energy.
This is a temporary site registered by Riverside until arrangements for transfer to the community are confirmed. We would like to find Longtown residents who are able and willing to build the site and maintain it for the future benefit of the community.
