Welcome

Longtown has been awarded £1 million through Northwest Regional Development Agency to implement a regeneration programme - the Longtown Market Town Initiative or MTI.

The aim is to improve the economy of Longtown by helping people living in the area to improve their income-earning ability and by helping businesses to develop and grow.

Longtown MTI Area
The Longtown MTI area stretches from Longtown to Bewcastle and includes the following parishes: Arthuret, Askerton, Beaumont, Bewcastle, Hethersgill, Kingmoor, Kirkandrews-on-Esk, Kirklinton, Nicholforest, Rockcliffe, Solport, Stapleton and Westlinton. This covers mainly CA6 and parts of postcode areas CA5 and TD9.

Longtown MTI Team
The Initiative has a team of 3 staff who are all located next to the Library in Longtown. Their role is to deliver a number of projects, which combined will help to improve the economy of Longtown.

Providing support for businesses
Longtown MTI runs grant schemes that are available for new and existing businesses to develop, invest and expand. In addition to this, the programme aims to put businesses in touch with organisations offering relevant support.

Providing support to people
Longtown MTI aims to increase the earning capacity of people who live in and around the area. This can often be achieved through the development of new skills and other training and support programmes to help people find jobs or improve their employment potential.
