If you would like to be in some sort of paid job but need help making the first steps back into the workplace, we can help.
Longtown MTI aims to help individuals to develop their employment potential by:
- learning new skills
- refreshing existing knowledge
- overcoming barriers to employment
- and building confidence
Grants
Training Grants are available for anyone living in the MTI area. For individuals, funding can be up to 100% if you are not working and up to 50% if you are working but earning less than £15 000 per year (and your household income is less than £30,000 per year).
These grants can cover books, travel, childcare, exam fees, course costs – whatever helps you to take up the right training opportunity for you.
Businesses located in the area can apply for up to 50% of the costs of training their staff. One example from a recent programme is the Graham Arms Hotel.
Training and Employment Advice
Knowing and finding the type of work you want is not always easy. Getting the right skill or qualification to apply for the job in the first place can be very challenging.

Getting Ready to Work/Personal Development Courses
A number of courses have taken place so far to:
- Help you to identify your skills and build confidence in your abilities
- Identify potential work or learning opportunities
- Develop CV writing, job application and interviewing skills
